Stone + Timber Homes is a Central Iowa design-build contractor — custom homes, renovations and commercial construction. We take on a limited number of projects a year so the person you meet is the person who runs your build.

Why we started
Too many Central Iowa families were getting the same experience: an attractive base price, a stack of surprise allowances, and a superintendent juggling a dozen houses who stopped returning calls somewhere around drywall.
Ten-plus years and 75-plus projects later, the answer has not changed. Grounded in Integrity. Built with Intention. is not a line we hung on a wall — it is the reason we cap how many projects we start in a year.
We built this company around the opposite: a real number early, selections locked before ground breaks, and one builder who owns the outcome. We would rather build fewer homes and have every owner hand out our name at a barbecue.
How we work
- Limited slate. A capped number of builds per year so nothing gets thin.
- Same trades every time. Long-standing Central Iowa partners, not whoever bid lowest this month.
- Written everything. Scope, allowances, selections and change orders on paper.
- We answer. Same day during the week. That should not be a differentiator, but here we are.

Local matters more than it sounds
A builder who works only in Central Iowa knows which Ankeny subdivisions have architectural review committees with opinions about roof pitch, which soils on the west side need engineered footings, which inspector wants what, and which lots flood in a wet April even though nothing on the plat says so.
That knowledge does not show up in a brochure. It shows up in a build that stays on schedule and a house that is still tight in year fifteen.
